Iconic Canadian brunch restaurant hatches first Toronto location

How a local chef is pushing breakfast boundaries and subverting eggspectations

To Chef Mauro Martina, breakfast begins far earlier than 7 a.m. Whether he’s ordering produce that was harvested just yesterday or among the many free-range chickens happily clucking away, Chef Martina embraces the philosophy that food should fill your soul by serving up unparalleled integrity and creativity.

He developed an appreciation for food during his childhood in Italy. Today, he’s the proud founder of OEB Breakfast Co., an iconic brunch eatery with over a dozen locations across Canada and the US. This month Toronto is welcoming its first OEB location in Liberty Village where locals can get a taste for what makes this beloved brunch spot unlike any other. It’s complete with a stunning 40-seat patio, egg-lectic decor, and a beautiful bar serving up brunch cocktail favourites.

His creative takes on the morning classics have set him apart from the rest. Sous-vide duck confit breakfast poutine, truffle-infused eggs benedict with braised squash, and a signature vegetarian primavera “scramblette” are just a few of the mouth-watering delights that keep hungry guests coming back. Each restaurant furthers his vision of demanding more from our breakfast with sustainable, beautifully-crafted meals inspired by the fine dining experience.

“Our morning meals deserve the same chef-inspired artistry and passion that Torontonians have come to expect from a dining experience,” says Martina. “We’re bringing innovation to the breakfast table with fresh meals that leave you feeling better than when you arrived.”

In 2009, what started as a standalone restaurant in Calgary to spend more time with family quickly sparked something of a breakfast renaissance. Inspired by his time in fine dining and working with Michelin-star chefs, Martina aims to revolutionize the most important meal of the day by becoming the first Michelin-star breakfast restaurant. After all, why should the best meals of our day be resigned to after 12 p.m?

OEB Breakfast Co. opens at 125 East Liberty Street in Liberty Village, Toronto on March 28, 2022. Learn more at eatoeb.com.
